Right about now, I think it’s safe to say, that we are in a moment of reflection. Hunting seasons have passed and we are left with rich memories to look back on and hopefully bounty a plenty in our freezer. For many, this means that next hunting season won’t matter until…well, next hunting season. Bows get hung up, maps aren’t given any attention, and hunting gear acquires more dust than they do miles. It is officially the “off season.” If you are looking to make the most of next hunting season, it’s better to look at this time of year as the “on season.”

I used to be someone who suffered from the “off season blues.” Hunting seasons held a lot of anticipation for me, and still do. However, I’ve come to love this time between seasons. It’s honestly pretty exciting. This is when my imagination runs wild with the possibilities of what’s to come. Planning is a huge part of what’s going on now too. Sitting here right now in February, I can tell you what my entire year is going to look like on the hunting front, and I cannot wait to dive in. Until then, there is much to do.

At the end of each hunting season I really like to look back on areas I fell short in and how I can improve. There is always room for improvement and not just with shooting a bow or scouting. I’m even talking about how we live our day to day lives. Things like what foods we’re eating and how active we’re being. Basically, are we taking care of our bodies? Because our bodies are the ship that takes us through these beloved hunting seasons and the skills we acquire or hone are what helps seal the deal. It all matters.

2025 is a year I am looking at to make my absolute best yet on all fronts. And it all comes down to creating good habits that will invest in my future. I think we all know what good habits look like, but the longevity in keeping them is often tested via our day to day responsibilities. Through time these tests either push us further away from our goals or hone us for the better. I fully intend on the latter and hope you do too. Now’s your chance.
