Hey, guys! Hope you all have had a great spring so far. Maybe you’ve been out chasing turkeys, maybe bear, or maybe both! Even better. Along with turkey and bear hunting, I look at spring time as the start of gear testing. I recently got a new bow sight and I am pretty excited about it so far. I went with the Spot Hogg Boonie 5-pin and have some pretty high hopes for it this season.

All bow sights need to be sighted in and there are a few common mistakes I see newbies make on a regular basis. They are as follows:

  • Moving the sight/pin in the wrong direction to correct an impact point
  • Installing the sight tape wrong or even not at all
  • Prematurely making adjustments
  • Blaming the gear, not yourself

With all of that in mind I wanted to walk you through the process I personally used to sight in my new Spot Hogg Boonie 5-pin. At the end of the day, there is more than one way to skin a cat, BUT this method right here has served me very well through the years and I think it will serve you well too. Some of this is specific to the Spot Hogg, but most of the information can be used with any slider bow sight.

I hope that this helps any of you who are acquiring new bow sights this year and are new to archery or maybe even just looking for a different perspective on things.
