A quality layering system for western hunting is absolutely non-negotiable in my eyes, especially when it comes to backpack hunting. This is something that is going to keep you warm when it’s cold, dry when it’s raining, and cool when it’s warm out. Versatility is key and this year Sitka Gear hit the nail on the head for me.

As an avid backcountry hunter having a clothing system that I can trust is incredibly important to me. Late last year I had the opportunity to try out some Sitka Gear and have been super happy with the performance from top to bottom. With that said, Sitka has a ton of gear to choose from. In light of that, I’m going to break down my personal layering system for 2024. Hopefully, this will provide you with some insight on what Sitka Gear would work for you, and honestly just how to go about building a layering system of your own.

Sitka Gear Layering Kit 2024

Versatility is Key

I really hope you found that enjoyable and helpful. Whether it’s Sitka Gear or not, the key to building a solid layering kit is building something that is versatile through a wide variety of situations. I don’t have a certain layering kit for fall and another for winter. I may switch an item out here and there, say a lighter jacket in place of a heavier jacket, but the foundation of the layering kit is all the same.

This approach keeps things efficient when in the field, and even at home when packing. There is no “but, what am I going to bring?” Understand how your kit works and what it can handle. I used to keep notes on my phone of what temperatures I was in and how what I was wearing performed. This allows you to know what the kit can handle and maybe when you need to think about switching an item out in specific situations.

Anyways, I’m outta here. Be sure to subscribe to both the blog and the YouTube channel to stay up to date on all future content. Lots coming down the pipeline! See ya!
