Hey, everyone! Hope everybody’s spring is treating them great and you are getting out in the hills on a more regular basis after the winter time. Some spring seasons are already upon us and I am as excited as ever to see what the coming months bring in terms of bears and turkey. Another thing that I am pretty stoked on at the moment is an experiment I have decided to do with dieting. There are 3 big diets that are being mentioned on a regular basis right now it seems. Folks are chatting about eating clean, keto, and paleo. Instead of picking one, I have decided to try them all.
Dieting is a somewhat frustrating topic for me. I want to be as healthy and fit as I can, but when one person is touting about keto and saying it’s the greatest thing ever, but then another says the same about paleo, I am left a bit confused. Who do you believe in that case? That leads me to why I made the decision to take on this challenge. What better way to answer this question than to try it out yourself. All of us are different and will react differently to different diets. So what is this challenge I speak of?
For the next month(April), my wife and I will be on a clean eating diet. No added sugars and no preservatives. Just plain old good food. After that, I will go back to my original diet for the month of May. Then in June I will go to a keto diet, with July being back to my original diet. After that August will be Paleo and September will be back to the original diet again. The reason I am doing this is so that I can really feel the difference between the diets. Will I lose weight? How will I feel after my workouts or in the backcountry?
Ah, the backcountry. That brings me to another exciting thing about all of this. I will have to be on these diets while on my hunts, so I am going to put together a backcountry meal plan for each diet. I think the number 1 question that backcountry hunters get asked that are on any of these diets is, “what are you eating on your hunts then?” In light of that, I will be happy to line out example days for me back there in the hills.
So, there you have it! I am pumped to bring you all this content over the next 6 months! I will try to do weekly updates via this blog and Youtube to let you all know how I am feeling and performing. I’ll also keep you up to date via my social media channels on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. Keep in mind, I am not a professional at any of this nutrition stuff. I am merely doing the things that are lined out from folks who know way more than me. So, if you have any tips for me along the way, I’d love to hear them. Have you tried any of these diets before? What were your experiences with them? I want to know! Until then, stay tuned, and good luck out there on your spring hunts!
