So, I’ve written a few books! The first is Becoming a Backpack Hunter: A Beginner’s Guide to Hunting the Backcountry and the second is Becoming a Bowhunter: A Complete Beginner’s Guide to Archery Hunting. I’m immensely proud of how both of these turned out as each of them is a reflection of my deep-seeded passion for bowhunting and backpack hunting. Becoming a Backpack Hunter took me 2 years to write and Becoming a Bowhunter took about 3 years to write. From the titles, I’m sure you can gather what they are about, but let me give you the skinny on them and why I decided to write these in the first place.
My latest book(2024) is called Becoming a Bowhunter: A Complete Beginner’s Guide to Archery Hunting and that’s really what it’s all about. I wrote it based on my experience coming up in bowhunting. All of the failures, lessons learned, and triumphs after countless days and nights in the field, and long talks with veteran bowhunters through Becoming a Bowhunter. And I’m not coming at you like it’s my way or the highway here because it absolutely is not. That’s one of the most beautiful things about bowhunting to me. It’s moldable to each individual.
I wrote Becoming a Bowhunter for the new archery hunter looking for some sound advice from a fellow archery hunter. I do not come from a place above you. I talk with you. For the new bowhunter who might feel lost and doesn’t quite understand the language of bowhunting, this is for you. If you are new to bowhunting, I truly believe that Becoming a Bowhunter will serve as a great resource and get you started down the path of bowhunting. I’m fully confident that it will help you fill your first tag and many more after the fact.

When I first dove into the world of backpack hunting, I’m not gonna lie, it was pretty intimidating. So many things seemed unreachable. There were questions that I had that needed answering. As I was going through that process, I could understand why someone might turn their nose up to this whole thing early on. It’s a lot to swallow.
It took me years of acquiring gear and information before going on my first backpack hunt. I decided that I wanted to extend a hand to the folks who were just getting into this stuff. Folks that are just like I was when I started. I wanted to give it to them, not from the perspective of an expert, but from the perspective of someone who was where they were not long ago. This was all due to you guys and gals over the years asking me questions about backpack hunting. Through that, it reminded me of the struggles I went through in the beginning.
So, while after writing this book, I feel extremely proud of doing so, this book is for YOU. It’s for the person who’s been kicking around the idea of learning how to backpack hunt but hasn’t started yet. It’s for the person that may have dipped their feet in the water, but have not jumped fully in. If that sounds like you, I think you’ll like what is inside the book. From a person not knowing if they even want to backpack hunt, all the way to packing an animal out back to the vehicle, it’s in there, along with everything in between. It’s what I believe to be a one-stop shop for a beginner backpack hunter.
