Sage and Braker Gun Cleaning Kit – The Perfect Father’s Day Gift

Father’s Day is right around the corner and I thought it would be cool to highlight a certain product that I think would be a perfect Father’s Day Gift! If your Dad is anything like mine, he loves his firearms. He doesn’t just love them, he takes an immense amount of pride in keeping those firearms clean. Hours are spent cleaning every crease of a gun by hand. My Father’s generation was filled with craftsman who truly cared about what they did. That very trait is sadly somewhat of a lost art. Good craftsman come far and few between, so when a company like Sage and Braker break the surface, my eyes are wide open. They are the makers of a truly high quality gun cleaning kit crafted at the highest caliber. A kit that will care about your Father’s guns as much as he does.

Who is Sage and Braker?

Sage and Braker isn’t just a company that builds a gun cleaning kit to pay the bills. They are built on quality, pride in craftsmanship, and family values. Founder Fred Bohm has a profound interest in securing the outdoor lifestyle and public lands for future generations to come. In a world where more and more time is spent in front of a small entrancing screen, ensuring his kids have the same opportunities to wander that he has is crucial. Just like craftsmanship being somewhat of a lost art, so to is living a life outside, and embracing what nature has to offer. Fred wants to make sure those traditions don’t die with him. Sage and Braker isn’t only about preserving the life of your firearms, but preserving this outdoor life that we’ve all come to love. A small company with an even larger message.

The Sage and Braker Father’s Day Cleaning Bundle

With Father’s Day being a hop skip and a jump away, Sage and Braker was thoughtful enough to put together a Father’s Day Cleaning Bundle specifically for all of the awesome Dads out there that love their guns. On top of that, they are selling it at a discounted rate for this special occasion! This kit comes with a roll out gun cleaning mat, Sage and Braker’s industry leading CLP to protect your firearms from corrosion and rust while lubricating as well, a bore cleaning kit(sizing being your choice), a brush and pick tool roll, and a package of 6 inch firearm cleaning swabs to get those hard to reach areas. It’s a fantastic package and one I think any Dad would be stoked on. After using it first hand, I can attest to that.

My Experience with Sage and Braker

The first thing that I noticed when I started diving into this kit was the quality. The materials, stitching, and overall functionality are top notch. Heck even the smell of leather was intoxicating to me. When you roll out this gun mat, you can tell that this isn’t something that is going to fall apart on you after a few years. I’m confident in saying that this is going to last one a very long time, just like your guns.

The gun mat is equipped with pockets ranging in size where you can store all of your cleaning supplies. Everything that you will receive in this bundle fits right into these pockets and then some. I really appreciated this, because I just like organization. Having everything in one spot is more efficient. It avoids having to go digging around looking for things. While being as robust as the kit is, the mat has a very soft feel to it. Perfect for laying your firearms on when it’s time to get them cleaned up. No worrying about scratching up the dining room table while you do your work.

The Sage and Braker Bore Snake

Now, before this point, I had never used a bore snake before to clean a gun. In the past, I’ve always used the old rod and handle method with the throw away cleaning swabs. This process would usually take quite awhile. It was a necessary evil though for the life of my rifle. Sage and Braker has a multitude of videos on their website on how to use their products and the bore snake is no exception to that. After watching those videos and going through the whole cleaning process, I’ve gotta say I was blown away by how easy it was. Not just easy, but QUICK. Owner Fred Bohm says that “cleaning a gun shouldn’t have to be a painful.”

How it’s Done

One word comes to my mind when I think of using this bore snake, “simple.” All you are going to do is spray some of Sage and Braker’s CLP into the action end of your firearm and then some down the business end of your barrel. Let that sit for a few minutes and you are ready to rock. From there you can choose to either run just the caliber of brush first through the barrel or you can run the brush and snake. I chose to run the brush first to break up anything inside the barrel, then the brush and snake. All of this took less than 10 minutes! That includes letting the firearm sit after spraying the CLP. I remember thinking “That’s it?” Yes, that’s it. Done.

Brush and Pick Tool Roll and Cleaning Swabs

There is always some hard to reach areas on a firearm to clean. Little tiny crevices that get some build up and need attention. That is where Sage and Braker’s Brush and Pick Tool Roll come in as well as their 6 inch cleaning swabs. Using both of these I was able to really brush away and residual build up from when the weapon was fired. The double sided brushes come in both bronze and nylon. The bronze is really for that stubborn stuff that just isn’t coming off and the nylon is a lighter brush. Use the brass and stainless steel picks, for those super tight areas that demand attention.

The Verdict on Sage and Braker?

All in all I am super pumped on this cleaning system. From the quality of the kit itself all the way to the process of using it. It was literally the easiest time I have ever had cleaning my rifle. In the past I’ve always looked at cleaning my rifle as this cumbersome task that was completely undesirable as far as I was concerned. It took way longer than I wanted, I’d always run out of cleaning swabs, and overall was a pain in the butt. Sage and Braker stomps that right into the ground and I couldn’t be happier about that. So, my verdict is the Sage and Braker Father’s Day Cleaning Bundle gets a huge A+ in my book.

In Closing

As a kid, I remember watching my Dad lay out all of his gun cleaning supplies on the dining room table and proceed to clean said guns right there. This was always intriguing to me as a youngster. The smells, the precision and pride my Father took in cleaning his firearms, and then the finished product glaring at me as light hit it just right. He always told me that if I took care of a rifle and kept it clean, it would last me forever. That’s powerful stuff when you think about it. A solid rifle handed down from generation to generation is somewhat of a family member in its own right. So, I think investing in that should never be something that we would question. By preserving the life of the rifle, we are in a sense preserving all of the memories that come with it. Who better to help you do so than a company like Sage and Braker who is just as passionate about this outdoor lifestyle as you are?
