When the temps start to rise here in Arizona after spring has sprung, one thing instantly hits my mind, and that is the thought of Fall Bear Season. Our first Fall season here in Arizona starts in August and I usually begin scouting for this during the month of June. The goals with these trips isn’t necessarily to see bears, if I’m being honest. The perfect scenario for me is finding sign of current bears, as well as finding future food sources to hold them there. In this case, I’m referring to foods that aren’t ready to eat yet, but they will be ready to eat come August.
So far I’ve been on two scouting trips. Both of which I considered an immense success. The first, we were into bear sign all over the place. Literally, the most bear sign I’ve ever seen. And future food, being acorns, were also present there. The second trip, we also found bear sign as well as a mountain of food. The food is everything with bears. It’s what drives them and what drives my scouting trips.

Another thing I’m looking for during these scouting trips is huntable terrain in relation to how I want to hunt. For this coming August, we’re mainly looking to call with a sprinkle of potential spot and stalk. This means that we need fairly dense cover, preferably shaded bedding areas, to call in. And good vantage points where we can observe bears feeding in the open via our optics.
Down below is the first video that will take you along for the ride scouting bears with me. It’s an exciting time of year! Hope you enjoy and don’t forget to SUBSCRIBE TO THE YOUTUBE CHANNEL!
