GameSaver® 710 Big Game™ Vacuum Sealing System Review

Some of my fondest memories are from my childhood. These special times are what shaped me into the person that I am today. We are so impressionable as youngsters, and I will forever be grateful to my Father for bestowing a life in the outdoors on me. As far back as I can remember, he was taking me fishing and hunting. It was here that I learned a great deal about what hard work gets you. In order to achieve great results, I needed to put in great effort. All the while, truly appreciating what was in front of me, and the landscapes that I called home. Preserving these memories has become something incredibly important to me over the years, as is preserving our riches from these trips. I’m not talking about money, no. I’m referring to that precious organic free range protein that we are so fortunate to acquire through our great efforts. I’ve been preserving said protein through vacuum sealing for years and have full faith in its effectiveness. The GameSaver® Big Game™ Vacuum Sealing System fits that bill and here’s why.

What is it?

Ok, so you might be thinking that this is just another ordinary vacuum sealer with some fancy emblem on it. Putting antlers on things make them more expensive right? I can assure you, that couldn’t be farther from the truth with this unit. FoodSaver® GameSaver® really hit a home run on this little beauty of a machine. It’s not JUST another vacuum sealer, it’s a specialized unit, for specialized use. As an avid hunter who spends a ton of time in the field, my gear gets put through its fair share of abuse, so it’s important that said gear can handle that. Rugged forethought was put into this unit, and that shows with its appearance. From the handle, for on the go use, to the rubberized buttons, instead of plastic ones, you can rest assured knowing that the Big Game™ can handle the big game you bring back to the truck at the end of a long hunt. You can process right out in the field with this bad boy thanks to the 12 Volt DC Adapter that you can plug into RV’s, boats, or your truck. Talk about from field to plate fresh!

Why Use It?

This is an incredibly easy question to answer, if you are anything like me. I spend so much time out in the mountains chasing my bowhunting dreams, that I just can’t afford to skimp on my food preservation. It calms me to know that my harvest is in good hands after the endless miles put on my truck and boots. The thought of my hard earned protein going freezer burned, is not something I want to come to fruition. So, that is why. It is an insurance policy of sorts. By removing all of the air from touching your meat or fish, you are prolonging the very life of that protein. In fact, you are increasing that life up to 5X longer by employing the use of the Big Game™. Also, because of the workhorse of a unit this is, you will be able to package up 240 pounds of meat at a time or 80 consecutive seals. That’s a whole lot of future meals, and a beast of a vacuum sealer to say the least!

FeaturesGameSaver Big Game Vacuum Sealer

The Big Game™ is overflowing with cool features. On top of what I’ve already mentioned, this is also compatible with some of their other products, like the 8-11″ Heat Seal Bags and Rolls, all of their pre-made bag sizes, the fresh containers, and the quick marinator. It’s even got a built in storage compartment where you can stash your Fresh Handheld Sealer to use for when you want to marinate food in the FoodSaver® Quick Marinating Containers. Like I said, overflowing.

My ExperienceJosh of Dialed in Hunter using the GameSaver Big Game Vacuum Sealer

My experience with the unit was a pleasant one. I dig the more rugged construction, when compared to FoodSaver® models I have used in the past. Those were always great to me, but this one seems like it’s just ready to work its tail off for you. The carry handle has been super convenient and I see it definitely coming in handy for future use on the go. I can see myself bringing this straight to the lake and vac sealing fish right there on the spot. That will save me a ton of work that I would have to do once I got home. With this, I can take care of that stuff in the field, so the only thing I have to do when I do get home is load up my freezer.

Quick Tip

A quick note about getting a proper seal with this and any vac sealing system. It is recommended that the meat be pre-frozen, before vacuum sealing. They say this so that the juices don’t come out of the fillet or steak when being vac sealed, which will compromise your seal. Personally, I see pre-freezing the meat to be rather cumbersome, so what I have started to do is wrapping the meat airtight with plastic wrap, then vac sealing. This will ensure a proper and sound seal.

Conclusion

With Father’s Day right around the corner, I can’t think of a better gift for the hunting/angling Dads of the world. What better way to preserve their hard earned fish/game and memories than with a GameSaver® Big Game™ Vacuum Sealing System? Speaking of memories, that reminds me of a fond one I have. About 20 some years ago, I went on my first deer hunt with my Dad here in Arizona. I remember being scared, because it was the first time that I had ever gone camping before. It was cold, quiet, and exciting all at the same time. What to expect, was not something that I had any clue of. Sitting around the fire at night with my Dad had my stomach stewing in anticipation. I had never even seen a deer before, let alone go hunting. That night a herd of elk came through our camp and I remember being able to feel the ground move as they traveled past our tent. Everything was so new to me. The smells, sounds, and sights were all a first. After taking me fishing at a nearby stream, my Dad brought me out hunting for the evening. Then it happened. I saw my first deer. That moment is burned into my mind and was probably a turning point in my life. A seed was planted within me, by my Father, of which I had no idea how much would grow and impact my life. In the end, we didn’t fill our tag, but that wasn’t important.

Preserve the memories, preserve the moment.
