Back in March of 2020 I released my very first book Becoming a Backpack Hunter: A Beginner’s Guide to Hunting the Backcountry. The positive response was overwhelming and it continues even to this day as I sit here now in 2024. Shortly after writing that book, I started another. I’ve kept this as hush as I could over the years of writing it, but it’s time to get the word out.

Becoming a Bowhunter…

Along with backpack hunting, my biggest passion is bowhunting. Everything about it is addicting to me. From the joy and fulfillment it provides to even the frustration at times. When I first started, though, resources were very minimal. Most of what I know I’ve learned from a magazine article here and there, a book or two, and most importantly really good bowhunters giving me advice. All of this information for me was never in one place. So, I wanted to put it all in one place. A place called Becoming a Bowhunter: A Complete Guide to Archery Hunting.

The approach and delivery of my new book Becoming a Bowhunter: A Complete Guide to Archery Hunting is in parallel with my first book. It’s a from front to back look at the topic geared specifically toward beginners. In the works for 3 years, I can’t wait to share this with you. I wish I had this when I started bowhunting.

What’s in the Book?

A bowhunter walking into the sunset

I talk about everything from how to pick the right bow for you, cover an almost overwhelming amount of gear items, walk through many different tuning processes, how to shoot, break down how to get tags, and the different methods of archery hunting to just name a few.

There are also guest contributions from Brad Brooks and Jace Bauserman. Brad Brooks is the owner of backcountry hunting gear company Argali. He does a piece on calling elk, but it’s not your run of the mill “how to call elk.” It’s a very honest and refreshing bit of information that I truly believe will help you come September. Jace Bauserman is a bowhunter from head to toe and author of Winning Ways for Whitetails and Bowhunting the Prince of Plains. The guy knows a thing or two about setting up ambush points for big game with his bow. So, I thought he’d be the perfect person to lay out Ambush Hunting 101. He’s gonna get you on the right path with the waiting game.

Release Date?

At the moment I don’t have a set release date, but I will keep you all up to date on that in the coming weeks. Becoming a Bowhunter: A Complete Guide to Archery Hunting is written and now it’s a matter of formatting and getting it ready for print. Just like Becoming a Backpack Hunter, this book will be self-published and sold through Amazon.

Before I snuggle up with my daughter and likely watch some sort of Barbie show, I want to give a sincere thank you. I never planned on writing books or doing what I do today to keep the lights on. It’s because of YOU that I get to do this. It’s your encouragement and support through the years. So, from deepest parts of my heart, THANK YOU.

Time for Barbie now…
